Pomegranate Pear Spritzer

Pomegranate Pear Spritzer

When I was a sophomore in college, I became a juicing maniac. After dusting off some basement dust bunnies and lugging my mom’s huge juicer through multiple airports my little baby made its home on my kitchen counter. We had great times and other times that weren’t so great, like when I tried to make a drinkable version of salsa, which included juiced onion and garlic. Not my finest hour. Ultimately, for cost and health efficiency, I had to let my juicer go, but every once in a while, she sneaks her way back into my life.

While I can drink water all day everyday, sometimes you just need something a little more. That’s why I revived my juicer from the depths of messy kitchen cabinet hell to make this pomegranate pear spritzer.

Technically, this isn’t a true spritzer, more like fizzy fruit juice. I enjoy bubbly juice just fine without alcohol, but if you need something to get through all the stress that the holidays sometimes cause, go ahead and add a lil somethin’ somethin’ for yourself.

For this pomegranate pear spritzer, I made the completely optional choice to juice my own pomegranate by blending the seeds in a blender and then straining them twice. If that sounds a little too labor intensive for you, store bought will do just fine. For an added cold-fighting zing I included a hit of ginger to spice things up.

Here’s how you can make this recipe just in time for Christmas morning:

Pomegranate Pear Spritzer

(makes 4 servings)

  • 3 pomegranates or 1 1/2 cups of pomegranate juice
  • 3 pears
  • 1 inch of ginger
  • club soda

Instructions

  1. Slice open your pomegranates and remove seeds. If this is completely new to you, I'm hooking you up with some instructions. If you bought pomegranate juice just skip this step and step 2.
  2. Place all seeds in a blender and blend until all becomes a smooth liquid. Transfer mixture to a fine strainer and strain 1-2 times. You should have a gritty paste left behind.
  3. Juice your pear and ginger into separate containers.
  4. Mix 1/3 cup of club soda, 1/2 cup of pomegranate juice, a tablespoon of ginger and 1/4 cup of pear juice. If you're using store bought pomegranate juice, you may want to put in a little at a time because it tends to be a bit more concentrated.
  5. Serve with additional alcohol or ice.

Enjoy!
