Vegan Cinnamon Apple Smoothie

Vegan Cinnamon Apple Smoothie

Spinach. Pineapple. Mango. Coconut Water. Ginger. Lemon juice.

That’s normally how my morning green smoothies go. While this drink provides fiber, protein and natural sugar to get me started during the day, drinking the same smoothie can get repetitive quick.

Making a smoothie is like a scientific experiment to me. I love drafting and mixing healthy drinks with unusual ingredients, like the first smoothie I posted on Herban Yums, which featured apple sauce.

Basically, if you can blend it, I probably have tried it in a smoothie. Juicing gets even weirder. I once made a juice with onion and garlic, but that’s a time I’d rather not talk about.

In an effort to try something new, I plugged in my blender and started working on the smoothie equivalent of Apple Jacks cereal. While some cinnamon apple smoothies include raw oats, I quickly realized that concept wasn’t for me.

For a smoother, creamier texture, I used soy milk and half a frozen banana, but if you’re iffy on bananas, you can go ahead and omit it.

While green smoothies are hyped up as nutritional superstars, this cinnamon apple smoothie isn’t too shabby either. Cinnamon has been proven to lower blood pressure, increase circulation, improve digestive issues and fight free radicals with its high antioxidant properties. Apples are also antioxidant rock stars that have been shown to aid weight loss and improve brain function.

If you want to literally add a little spice to your morning smoothie routine, try out the vegan cinnamon apple smoothie with the recipe below.

Cinnamon Apple Smoothie

Vegan Cinnamon Apple Smoothie

(makes 16 ounces or 1 serving)

  • 1 gala apple
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 cup unsweetened plain soy milk or nut milk
  • 1 tsp powder cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • several cubes of ice

  1. Chop apple into cubes. If you are very sensitive to texture and don't want your smoothie to be too gritty, you can peel the skin off the apple. Just keep in mind the skin on the apple has tons of nutrients.
  2. Blend apple, banana, vegan milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract and ice in a blender until the mixture is smooth and has no lumps.
  3. Pour and serve.
